Jeanette Anna MacDonald was born on June 18, 1903, in Philadelphia. Appearing in Broadway musicals first, Jeanette soon became a sure bet for movie musical fame. In her first film, THE LOVE PARADE (1929) Hollywood won the bet. Ms. MacDonald soon paired again with Maurice Chevalier in THE MERRY WIDOW (1934) and struck gold again in the role of Sonia. In the film she wore a beautiful chartreuse ring set in platinum.
